What is a Funeral Plan?
A funeral plan allows you to pay for a funeral director’s services at today’s prices. It reduces the financial and emotional stress and burden upon your loved ones at a difficult time.
According to the Sun Life Cost of Dying Report 2016, in 2004, the average funeral cost was £1920 by 2016, this had risen to £3987. Based upon this report, Golden Charter estimate that by 2026, the average cost of a funeral will be £7049 and then by 2036, it is estimated the average cost will be £12749. These increases are well above the rate of inflation.
Scollen & Wright are an approved Golden Charter Funeral Plan provider. We chose Golden Charter because not only are they the largest independent funeral plan provider in the UK but they are also a member of the Funeral Planning Authority (FPA).
This ensures that your funds are safe and that their code of practice is there for your peace of mind. They are also the only funeral plan provider recommended by the National Society of Allied Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) of which we are also a member.
What is Included in a Funeral Plan
Golden Charter offer a choice of funeral plans to suit your budget. A summary of what they include is listed below:
- Funeral Director’s Services
- Professional Advice On Certification & Registering The Death
- Conveyance Of The Deceased To A Suitable Resting Place Within A 15 Mile Radius
- Care Of The Deceased
- Use Of A Chapel Of Rest
- A Hearse To A Local Cemetery Or Crematorium
- Confidential Assistance With Bereavement Counselling If Required
- A Will For You Or Other Family Member Or Friend
Third Party Costs
This Contribution will increase
Whilst a funeral plan covers the entire funeral directors costs, it also includes a contribution towards third party costs necessary to carry out a funeral. These may include cremation or burial fees, doctors certificates and clergy/officiants costs. This contribution will increase with the growth of the plan value over time. Only where the actual cost of these third party costs exceeds the actual cost would there be more to pay for such essential costs at the time of the funeral.
Paying for a Funeral Plan
There are four methods of paying for a Golden Charter Funeral Plan:
- Pay In Full With One Single Payment
- £49 Deposit Then 12 Monthly Payments
- Low Cost Instalment Spreading The Cost Over A Period Between 2 And 30 Years Depending On Your Age
- Fixed Monthly Payments Until Your Death Or You Reach 90 Years Of Age
